Akshaya Tritiya 2010


Akshaya Tritiya 2010 is on May 16. Akshaya Tritiya, which is also known as Akha Teej is an important landmark in a Hindu year. This is one of the 4 most propitious days of the Hindu calender. According to the Hindu lunar calender, Akha Teej is on the third day of Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of moon) in Vaishakh Month. Astrologically every moment of this day is very lucky. The meaning of Akshaya is 'one which never diminishes’.

Sun and Moon are very luminous and in the most opportune phase on this day. So, personal as well as professional beginnings and ventures are carried out on Akshaya Tritiya. Any new endeavour or investment done on Akha Teej is bound to bring fruitful results. Even when it comes to marriages and purchasing valuables like gold and diamond, this is just the perfect time in an year. When the occasion is of Akshaya Tritiya, people worship Lord Vishnu and his incarnations and also Laxmi puja is performed.

As per Hindu mythology, there are various legends associated with this day. Sudama or Kuchela visiting Lord Krishna in Dwarka with a handful of rice in the form of poha or aval. Pandavas received the Akshaya Patram, a bowl, from Lord Krishna (Mahabharata) on Akshaya Tritiya. Another legend says that Sage Vyasa began the composition of Mahabharata on the day.
